Gordon Ramsay's Suit Collection is Ever Growing

Let's face it, even with the over abundance of celebrity chefs, all pale in the entertainment factor when Chef Gordon Ramsay takes stage. And even though it's clear that's he's taken strides to tone down his image quite a bit over the past couple of years, this British bugger can't seem to avoid legal catastrophe.

This time, according to Radar Online,Chef Ramsay is facing a class action law suit filed by his current and former employees of his Fat Cow restaurant. Their claiming "failure to pay minimum wage for hours worked, failure to provide meal periods, failure to pay overtime wages and more..."

Most people like to collect shot glasses, shoes, etc. In Ramsay's case, suits seem to be his fortay. So, in honor of Ramsay's latest suit, I'd like to dedicate this song just to him.

Top Chef All Stars Episode 12 Recap: Give Me Your Huddled Masses!

Top Chefs Richard, Carla, Mike Isabella, Tiffany & Antonia
Tonight’s Top Chef All Stars Episode 12 left me rather perplexed – were you? I hate endings that leave you hanging – especially ones that aren’t rewarding, but really just obvious tactics used to drag out a story line that could have been far more interesting had the story just gone direct. But I digress… Here’s the recap for Top Chef All Stars Episode 12: Give Me Your Huddled Masses!

Opening Scene: Richard Blais wasn’t prepared to see Dale Talde go home and he can’t celebrate his elimination win. And once again, Tiffany Derry is surprised she didn’t have to pack her knives (I’m rooting for you Tif!).

The chefs head to their “home bar” and everyone drowns their Dale-loss sorrows in drinks – except for Antonia Lafaso, who calls her daughter for a pick-me-up – then the top chefs drink to their next challenge (reluctantly). Mike Isabella: is that remorse I see on your cheating face?

The chefs are making breakfast and wondering what’s in store. Then…  Antonia says: “Is Padma coming in here?”

Suddenly Padma Lakshmi walks into the Top Chef’s apartment (welcome and get out) and  tells the remaining chefs that they should be proud to have beaten the 13 eliminated chefs (we know this is because of luck and "producer say" – less because of talent).

The chefs will be heading to Ellis Island for their Quickfire and Elimination challenges.

The Quickfire Challenge:
The chefs have to cook something with the ingredients in the boat snack bar before the boat docks on Ellis Island! There's no clock so they have no idea how much time they have and all they have to work with is “snack food”.

This challenge is terrible. It has nothing to do with "real" cooking. But here are the top chef dishes:
  • Richard Blais whips up a Hot Dog & Beef Jerky Sandwich with Jalapeno, Pork Rind, Lettuce and Apple.
  • Tiffany Derry whips up a Nachos dish with Lettuce, Cheese, Tomato, Jalapeno, Banana Pepper and Sour Cream. Then she tops it off with a Candied Mangos and Pineapples Popcorn. Love you, girl!
  • Mike Isabella whips up Bread Soup with Cheddar Cheese, Sour Cream, Green Chili and Pork Rinds.
  • Carla Hall whips up Orange and Papaya Salad with Carrot and Rosemary Juice.
  • Antonia Lafaso whips up Grilled Cheese with Apples and Raisin Bread.

Mike Isabella says he wouldn’t serve his dish to his cat. Of course, Mikey. It was a crap-food competition. Whatever you made isn’t worth serving. You’re being judged on what sucks less.

At the bottom: All of them – it was a shitty challenge. Tiffany, Mike and Richard
Big fat Quickfire near-misses: Antonia
On the top (for five minutes): Carla Hall! Carla Hall wins the crap-shoot!

Richard complains. Richard, you can’t be bitter towards the winner of a snack challenge. In the end, all of the food tastes like crap (their crap tasted better than your crap).

The Elimination Challenge:
The chefs are reunited with their families (this is sweet). But they have to cook up dishes that relate to their heritages. Really not crazy about this episode. It almost seems as if they picked the “TOP CHEF” winners based on nationalities, instead of their skills. What would have happened if the top 5 were Richard, Marcel, Fabio, Spike and Casey?

How many of our forefathers skipped the Ellis Island bandwagon? I’m kinda thinking this challenge is full of dog poop - but at least the chefs are cooking "real" food.
  • Mike makes Potato Gnocchi with Braised Pork Shank Ragu and Burrata Cheese.
  • Antonia makes Braised Veal, Rapini Leaf and Fava Bean Risotto.
  • Tiffany makes Braised Short Rib with Mustard Greens, Grilled Okra and Oxtail Marmalade.
  • Richard makes Short Ribs, Potatoes, Fried Bone Marrow, Corn Puree and Pickled Glasswort.
  • Carla makes Braised Pork Shoulder, Fried Grits, Corn and Sweet Potato Hash and Cheddar Biscuits.
The Judges Table:
Kinda want to skip all of this. The judges say everyone wins - nobody is sent home.

So happy Tiffany survived and of course “top chefs” Carla Hall, Richard Blais and Antonia Lafaso. Given Mike cooked up a storm and (for this round) didn’t deserve to be sent home, but to not send anyone home was LAME (with capitalizations).

Hate me if you want to – I believe in quality over quanity (I'll make up for it in spades next week).

Eric Ripert calls Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares Racist & Abusive

Celebrity Chef Eric Ripert
In a string of Tweets, celebrity chef and regular guest judge on “Bravo’s Top Chef”, Eric Ripert, vents his unfiltered opinion about Gordon Ramsay’s secondary TV Show, Kitchen Nightmares.

“Watched kitchen nightmares=RACIST content,verbal abuse,humiliation etc.Shame on Gordon&production of show!Not an inspiration of leadership”

“Episode of K..Nighmares I’m ref to is about grasshopper resto.racism when addressing to Latino staff.Gordon toucih is nose, leak his finger?!”

“To end Ramsay Saga.I think anger= weakness.&Who like to feel humiliated,insulted&screamed at?Work, home,anywhere?If U don t why someone would?”

Gordon Ramsay abusing another chef
“yes as a young Chef I was very abusive.I changed slowly12/10 years ago for the best to all.I was ignorant then&now much better”

Eric, I agree with you 180%. However, Gordon Ramsay’s not going to change. Ramsay gets paid to be an asshole. The only way we can ever get him to shut up is by boycotting any media that’s tied to him.

But then, what would I have to write about? Top Chef and Michelle Obama (the Fast Food Super Hero) can only be amusing for so long…

Top Chef All Stars Episode 9 Sneak Peek: Falling for Fallon

Jimmy Fallon is guest judge on Top Chef
On the 9th episode of Top Chef All Stars (Falling for Fallon), Jimmy Fallon joins the Top Chef cast as guest judge. Last week we saw Antonia Lafaso take home the prize and Tre Wilcox pack his knives.

And while there is definitely a Tre-like void in this episode, could another fan-favorite be packing their knives this week?

Here’s a sneak peak at this week’s episode of Top Chef All Stars episode 9:

-     The Top Chefs are led through NBC Studios and taken on a surprise visit to join actor/comedian, Jimmy Fallon on his TV show, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon
-     All of the chefs are completely baffled – they have no idea what’s going on…

Mike Isabella & Angelo give each other a hi-five
 -     Jimmy Fallon has the cheftestants play a game called “Cell Phone Shoot Out” on his TV show
-     Angelo Sosa wants to show the other chefs that he has diversity, so he creates a deconstructed beet and goat cheese salad with endive
-     Mike Isabella creates lamb kabobs with a feta fondue
-     Antonia Lafaso disses Mike Izzy, stating “If Mikey doesn’t have lamb with Moroccan spice he doesn’t know what to do. Man, that girl likes to talk some trash…
-     It appears that Angelo can’t complete one of his dishes in time and has to throw it out?? Let’s just hope that this is just a Quickfire dish, or we’ll be seeing Angelo pack his knives and go…
-     And last, but not least, Tom Colicchio, Padma Lakshmi and the Top Chefs will be celebrating Jimmy Fallon’s birthday during the Elimination Challenge.

Jimmy Fallon has an All Stars birthday on this week's Top Chef!

Gordon Ramsay Tossed to the Sharks (Warning: Contains graphic photo)

Gordon Ramsay celebrates capturing and killing a rare shark
(Courtesy of the Daily Mail)
Looks like celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay is taking another hit. When will he ever learn…

This time Ramsay has been caught in the act of hypocrisy to the fourth power by the UK’s Channel 4. The TV network just learned that Gordon Ramsay went shark fishing only 18 months ago, just before filming “Gordon Ramsay’s Shark Bait”, a show about the potential extinction of sharks.

In photos, provided by someone in attendance during Gordon Ramsay’s shark hunting expedition, Ramsay is shown (shirtless) celebrating his capture and kill of a rare shark.

The Shark that Gordon Ramsay Killed
Just when you thought Gordon Ramsay couldn’t sink any lower, he surprises you with a more horrific act. Well, Channel 4 isn’t having it. Apparently, this was the straw to break the camel’s back. Ramsay's £5million deal with Channel 4 ends this June and insiders say he has “no chance” of getting a similar big-money contract again.

While I’d like to believe Ramsay could learn his lesson from this, I know it’s about as likely to happen as it is for me to sprout wings and fly.

Visit the Daily Mail for more info on this story. See the new post below for the video - but just a warning, it's very disturning.

It looks like Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares isn’t just about the restaurant anymore. According to The Daily Mirror, the Kitchen Nightmares’ star and executive producer has added a number of irrelevant questions to the Kitchen Nightmares contestant application. How much a contestant weighs, as well as their height, eye and hair color are just a few of the questions that have been added. But my favorites of all of them are these:
  • Have you ever had a restraining order filed against you?
  • Does your family have a history of depression?
  • Are you easily upset?

Actually, the one regarding a history of depression seems to be fair.

A friend of mine had filled out an application for Chef Ramsay’s Hell’s Kitchen (as a joke) and told me that they had similar questions on the application he filled out, which he thought was strange. Considering that Kitchen Nightmare’s is supposed to be focused on the restaurants and not the contestants, asking such personal questions doesn’t seem right.

Moreover, Chef Gordon Ramsay should be focused more on cleaning up his muddied image instead of adding to his laundry list of drama and evil doings.

Are those questions even legal? But then again, does he really care?

Marcel Vigneron of Top Chef and Top Chef All Stars cooks for the people and has become a rap star over night! Nah, just kidding. But Marcel's rap remix is hillarious!

The video could have been cut better, but you'll still enjoy watching Marcel rap about cooking for the people! I know I did...

Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution Shunned by LA School District – Can You Blame Them?

Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver recently relocated to Los Angeles, CA in hopes of introducing his Food Revolution to the schools in LA County. But the LA school district isn’t interested in being featured on Jamie’s reality show. And frankly, I don’t blame them.

For starters, why would Jamie start with Los Angeles, unless he was out for publicity? While Los Angeles isn’t the healthiest city in the US (it was ranked at #38 out of the 50 top metro areas in the US, according to the American Fitness Index), it’s definitely not the unhealthiest. It is, however, the center of the entertainment industry and the best place to gain mass media exposure. What better location for a rising celebrity chef to host his reality TV show?

But let’s look at this from a parent’s perspective. How eager do you think the average parent would be to have their child’s education interrupted by a film crew on a daily or weekly basis? Personally, I wouldn’t stand for it. My guess is that most parents wouldn’t feel at all comfortable with their child appearing on national television either. With all the crazies out there and the numerous child abductions seen daily in the news, broadcasting one’s child across the whole of America just doesn’t seem sensible.

And then there’s the School District’s perspective. Jamie Oliver wants the LA school district to agree to be portrayed as incapable of providing healthy lunches to their students. And maybe after Jamie is done filming his show, the film editors can make a few modifications to make it appear as if the schools are serving their students rat burgers instead of beef. We all know that reality TV storylines don’t play out exactly as they really happen. Scenes are left out; statements are taken out of context…

Los Angeles is the last city in the U.S. hurting for publicity and Jamie’s Food Revolution probably seems like a perfect disaster in the eyes of LA County. Can you blame them?

Maybe Jamie should target a more relevant and welcoming city, like Detroit or Las Vegas.

Top Chef All Stars Recap: Episode 6 "We're Gonna Need a Bigger Boat"

Top Chef All Stars mixed things up this week – and I bet you’ll be very happy with the results…

The show begins with some major Jamie Lauren hating – a few clips recapping last week’s episode and everyone acknowledging what we already know:  Jamie should have been sent home instead of Casey Thompson.

In the next scene, everyone goes to sleep, except Marcel, Tre and Dale. It’s clear that the boys have been drinking and Marcel (drinking strait from a gin bottle) goes off on a gansta-style Dale-hating rant. Marcel and Dale are exchange some not-so-nice words and Dale walks away. Flash to Tre’s monologue: “I’ve definitely noticed over the weeks that… Marcel’s kind of an asshole.”

The chefs are woken up at 4:30am the next morning and in a haze of grogginess stumble into the kitchen only to find it empty, with the exception of a “gone fishing” sign and a note… telling the chefs to meet them in Montauk. Tiffani jumps up and down in excitement. Richard Blaise makes a comment that lets the viewers know that Toyota is sponsoring this episode of Top Chef.

This week’s Quickfire Challenge: There is no Quickfire Challenge!

The Elimination Challenge: The chefs head to Montauk and are split into four teams of 3. They’re given five hours to catch as many fish as they can, which they will cook and serve up to an end-of-summer beach party of 200. And get this:  it's a double elimination!

Two teams per boat, here’s how they were divided:
Boat 1:
Team 1
Jamie, Tiffani, Antonia
Team 3 Dale, Tré, Carla
Boat 2:
Team 2 Angelo, Tiffany, Mike
Team 4 Marcel, Fabio, Richard

Boat 1: Antonia learns what it’s like to catch a big fish. Jamie likes to cook in a “back to basics” kind of way. Tiffany calls out Jamie as the weakest member. Dale catches a huge fish with all of his strength within the first 5 minutes. Dale hopes his fish will make his dad proud.  Antonia catches the first fish on her team and screams like a 4th grader.

Boat 2: Angelo hates the water. Two hours go by and the chefs haven’t caught a thing. Marcel looks seasick (hungover). Then Fabio and Mike catch the first 2 fish (simultaneously) on their boat and luck seems to spread to everyone else. Tiffany hopes her experience in a seafood restaurant will help her shine. Their trip finishes the way it started: Dale catches a ginormous striped bass that reminds him of Marcel (big head and little awkward body). Fabio, Richard & Marcel decide to cook one dish together. Richard let’s Marcel think he came up with the idea because it’s the best way to manage his ginormous ego.

After the fishing trip the chefs go to a farmer’s market to pick up the rest of their ingredients. Richard and Fabio have a little bromance goin’ and share a cute moment pulling a wagon together. Carla decides to make blue fish lettuce wraps that remind us of the poorly made summer rolls she whipped up last week – too similar?

Back at the chefs’ crash pad, Marcel starts drinking again and Dale and Tre miss their women.

The next day, the chefs head to their makeshift kitchens on the beach and start cooking. Jamie’s incessant complaining drives everyone crazy. Richard regrets agreeing to cooking a single dish with the boys – they should have done two. Angelo, Tiffany and Mike decide to create two dishes. Teams 1 & 3 are making 1 dish per chef. Richard bosses Fabio around a little too much.

The Judges Table
Team 2 (Tiffany, Angelo, Mike) and team 3 (Dale, Tre, Carla) are called to the Judges Table first. The prize is a fabulous trip to Amsterdam! And the winner is... Carla! Everybody do the hootie hoo.

Team 1 (Jamie, Tiffani, Antonia) and team 4 (Marcel, Fabio, Richard) are then sent back to the Judges Table. Marcel, Fabio and Richard get reamed by the judges for only cooking one dish and not doing it well – and Tom Colicchio slaps Richard on the hand for his behavior towards Fabio. The judges tell Antonia that she would have gone to Amsterdam if Jamie and Tiffani hadn’t performed so poorly. Owch…

In the end two chefs are asked to pack their knives… Tiffani, we’ll miss you. Farewell Jamie – you knew this was coming.
