Top Chef Masters Season 3 gets a Makeover

Season 3 of Top Chef Masters Premiers on April 6th, 2011
How bummed are you that Top Chef Season 8 is so close to wrapping up? With only 3 episodes left (two after tonight), I’m sure you’re wondering if anything can fill the Top Chef void after such a fantastic season. Well rest assured that your Top Chef void won’t be empty for long. On April 6th, Top Chef Masters returns to Bravo TV with a new and improved season. And here are just some of the perks:

Renowned food critic Ruth Reichl joins Aussie Chef Curtis Stone and returning judge, James Oseland, on the Top Chef Masters judge’s panel.
And Bravo TV has decided to take the show in a new direction. The past Top Chef Masters competition events were judged based on a starred-scale, but season 3 of Top Chef Masters is switching to the same type of elimination-style challenges that we see on the original Top Chef series.

The cheftestants earn $5,000 for their designated charities for each Quickfire they win and $10,000 for each Elimination Challenge that’s won. The final winner of the season collects another $100,000 for his or her charity.

Top Chef Masters Season 3 Chef Contestants
The 12 master chef contestants competing on Top Chef Masters Season 3 are (drum roll please):

  • Hugh Acheson, Five & Ten, The National and Gosford Wine in Georgia
  • Floyd Cordoz, Tabla and a new Danny Meyer restaurant
  • John Currence, City Grocery Restaurant Group in Mississippi
  • Traci Des Jardins, Jardinière, Manzanita and Mijita Cocina Mexicana in San Francisco
  • George Mendes, Aldea in New York City
  • Mary Sue Milliken, Border Grill in Los Angeles
  • Naomi Pomeroy, Beast in Portland, Ore.
  • Suvir Saran, Devi in New York City
  • John Rivera Sedlar, Playa in Los Angeles
  • Alex Stratta, Stratta in Las Vegas
  • Celine Tio, Julian in Kansas City, Mo.
  • Sue Zemanick, Gautreau's in New Orleans

And the bonus, these chefs will be serving up food for some master entertainers and celebrity guest judges that include Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks, Maroon 5 and pop sensation Kelis, among others.

I was pretty wary of the upcoming season of Top Chef Masters, but with the additions of Ruth Reichl and Curtis Stone and the change of competition style I think this may be the best season of Top Chef Masters yet!

  1. Curtis Stone is boring as host of Top Chef Masters Season 3 and James Oseland should have a donkey's head inserted over his face for all his snarky comments and manners . . . he is really rude! The judges on Top Chef are really "top drawer" compared to the ones on Top Chef Masters!

  2. Does Curtis Stone even have a personality?! Padma seems stoned and jaded, yet more personality than the Aussie! What do they see in Curtis Stone? He just seems a bit tense and fake, so he is either too controlled and self-monitoriing, or he is truly a bland character. LOVE the show though! Excellent critics and impressive master chefs!

    Cristopher Kostow
    Art Smith
